  • Alexis Navaretta Rackstraw

Born and raised in Martin County, Florida Alexis Rackstraw received a Bachelor’s of Science from the University of Florida with a major in Therapeutic Recreation and minor in Education. Upon graduating Alexis was hired by the City of Ocala where she worked with senior citizens, as well as with adults and children who were physically, mentally and emotionally handicapped.  She developed programs, special events, and provided services to help them develop skills, care for themselves and function within the community.

Alexis eventually made her way back to her hometown of Stuart, Florida where she began working as a Case Manager with a private company that was contracted by the Martin County School District.  She became a family liaison and advocate for needed community services for families and children and linked them to the appropriate services. She also advocated and represented her clients in the juvenile court system as needed. As a certified case manager, a certified teacher and trained in psychopharmacology and conscious discipline, Alexis became a Special Education teacher within the Martin County School District.  She performed this role for four years and then decided to leave after having her second child to be a stay at home mom where she now has three beautiful daughters.

Throughout her life Alexis has witnessed and been involved with friends and family members who have been affected by cancer.  She has always been amazed by these individuals as they go through this terrible battle but somehow find an amazing inner strength to maintain a positive outlook and optimistic state of mind.  It gives her so much hope and gratification to see how these individuals are able to fight and yet find peace as they live through this vicious chapter of their life.  Because of this and her past professional work she is so excited to be part of the How Big Is Your Brave Foundation. Her goal is to give back to the community that she grew up in and to be a part of helping others to “Live their Lives and not their cancer.”

  • Jane Hudson Eaker

Jane Hudson Eaker is a native of Stuart, Florida with deep family roots to the area. She received a BS in Interior Design from Florida State University. Although she has worked in various sectors of the Interior Design, the most rewarding work came through healthcare design work during her time at Commons Medical Development. Some Projects include: Asheville Cardiology Center, Indian River Medical Associates, Florida Gulfcoast Endoscopy Center , and Bayou Bernard Professional Center. Although I have not work directly in the healthcare field, I felt the importance of well-being through design and environment.

As a past participant of Team in Training for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, I felt the magnitude of what cancer does to not only the survivor, but the family as well. It seems we all have family, friends, or co-workers touched by cancer, so being asked to participate in How Big is your Brave Foundation was the perfect fit for me to encourage others through their fight and to help give back to our amazing community we have here in Martin County.
